SAP BW Architecture

All leading analysts agree: enterprise-scale Business Intelligence needs an enterprise-class architecture, one that enables a quick and simple implementation, one that meets today's needs and tomorrow's desires, one that allows for enterprise-wide deployment to dozens, hundreds or even thousands of users.

These are precisely the benefits element61 can provide. Our experienced SAP BW architects can guide you on your journey towards a successful SAP Enterprise Data Warehouse on HANA.

Traditional data warehouses are built on the Layered Scalable Architecture best practices (LSA). It is based on several layers with data being physically transferred (e.g. Acquisition, Transformation, Data Smarts Layer).

element61 guidelines are based on the new concept of LSA++ architecture which offers a much simpler and smaller landscape which relies more on virtual objects and avoid duplicating data between layers without compromising the performance. This results in an architecture more flexible which deals more easily with changes in business, technology and requirements.

This relies on the following 4 objects:

  • CompositeProvider: to combine data from other InfoProviders (join/union) and makes the data available for reporting
  • Open Operational Data Store View: to define BW data models for database tables, views or BW DataSources. It also makes it possible to consume external data sources in BW without staging, combine data sources with BW models or physically load data from external data sources.
  • Advanced DSO: they are required to persistently store the data. It replaces the traditional Data Store Object, Persistent Staging Area (PSA) or InfoCube
  • InfoObjects: like the classic BW version, they are mainly used to build data models and can be defined as key figures or characteristics
