Principal Analytics Architect

Brecht holds a Master's in Commercial Sciences from the European University College Brussels (HUB/Odisee).

As Master's thesis, he completed an International Research Program at Balta Industries. In his free time, he was elected as the president of a local student club.

After his studies, Brecht started as a Junior Consultant at Deloitte Private. Within this role, he gathered his first consultancy experience at SME companies and became passionate about Business Intelligence as his preferred technology. He mainly used QlikView/Qlik Sense in combination with SQL Server.

To further focus on Analytics – also on bigger projects and customers - Brecht decided to join Delaware in 2017. This enhanced and broadened his ETL knowledge in using the entire on-premises SQL Server stack (SSMS, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS) as well as Modern Data Platform Tools (Azure SQL, Azure DevOps, Azure Data Factory, ... ), in combination with Tableau and Power BI as reporting platforms. Bekaert, Alpro, DPG Media, Vlaamse Overheid, and Unilin are examples of customers Brecht worked at during this period.

In 2021 Brecht decided to join Unilin on a permanent basis. Apart from the various Analytics projects, Brecht worked primarily as Project Manager on the internal Cloud Data Platform migration. The project aims to move the entire legacy data warehouse from an on-premise SAP BW/SAP HANA environment to a new cloud Azure Data Platform. Software solutions that are being used for doing so are - in logical ELT order – SAP BW, Velocity (ingestion tool), Azure Data Lake, Databricks, DBT, Azure Synapse Pipelines, and Power BI.

Brecht joined element61 in May 2023. At element61, Brecht integrates various customer projects focused on developing Azure Modern Data Platforms. In these endeavors, he assumes a pivotal role in providing architectural guidelines and overseeing the overall project progression.
This role has significantly enhanced the expertise in Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen 2, and Databricks, ultimately leading to the successful attainment of the Azure Data Engineering certification.

Beyond his engagement in customer projects, Brecht undertakes the creation of Data & Analytics architectural roadmaps. These roadmaps involve evaluations of existing BI environments, offering insightful analyses to structure and guide customers toward their future data environments.
