Migration and Upgrade of existing Microsoft data warehouse platform towards Microsoft 2016

Securitas wanted to phase out their old servers (Windows 2003).  The data warehouse environment (both SQL server databases, ETL processes as SSAS components) were still hosted on these outdated and unsupported servers.  The project consisted of upgrading SQL Server, SSIS and SSAS to 2016 on the new installed cluster environment. All ETL jobs (about 170 landing and 180 data warehouse packages) and cubes (Finance, Wages and RoundsAndInterventions) were upgraded, moved and tested on the new infrastructure.  Both environments were running in parallel to allow all users and applications could be reconnected (Qlik) or being rebuild from Cognos to Microsoft PowerBI.  Next to the as-is migration there was also rebuild for the SSAS cubes from Multidimensional to Tabular cubes.  The Tabular cubes allow a better integration and usage in PowerBI and are on Microsoft’s roadmap a better choice for future evolutions.
