In 2016 Ben graduated with a Master in Environmental Sciences at the University of Antwerp. During the summer he worked as a job student at the Flemish government. He leveraged his Excel (VBA) experience to automate greenhouse gas reporting for the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). A few months later he started his career as an advisor at the Provincial Institute for Hygiene (Province of Antwerp), an environmental laboratory that researches human health, water, soil, noise pollution, and air quality.

Over the past six years, Ben has fulfilled multiple roles at the institute. He coordinated a project that scaled up the operating space for all Flemish provinces. He developed a services platform aimed at new customers. Additionally, he developed or executed several (research) projects where he handled measurement equipment, processed data with self-made tools, and wrote reports.

Ben joined element61 in October 2022. At element61 he focuses on ESG reporting by leveraging his combined IT- and environmental sciences background, but is also experienced in other common reporting topics such as finance, sales, inventory, or operations. From a technical point of view, Ben is seasoned in building data warehouses and modern data platform solutions. He likes providing solutions in the back-end (certified data engineer) and the front-end (certified in Power BI, and PowerApps). He also enjoys managing his projects and relations with customers.

Ben enjoys playing guitar or riding his race bike in his free time. When traveling, he mostly enjoys nature, camping, and adventurous trips such as canyoning or hiking.
