In 2016 Ben graduated with a Master in Environmental Sciences at the University of Antwerp. During the summer he worked as a job student at the Flemish government where he leveraged his Excel (VBA) experience to automate greenhouse gas reporting for the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). A few months later he started his career as an advisor at the Provincial Institute for Hygiene (Province of Antwerp), an environmental laboratory that researches human health, water, soil, noise pollution, and air quality.

Over the past six years, Ben has fulfilled multiple roles at the institute. He coordinated a project which scaled up the operating space to all Flemish provinces. He developed a services platform based on a new business process, which allowed access to new customers outside the boundaries of the province. Additionally, he developed or executed several (research) projects where he handled measurement equipment, processed data with self-made tools, and wrote reports.

During his career, he had to utilize his IT skills continuously. Ben has worked with SharePoint (Power Automate, PowerApps), Power BI, Excel (VBA), geospatial data processing and visualization (QGIS, ArcGIS), different programming languages (mainly Python, Visual Basic), and graphic design (Photoshop, HTML/CSS). Within most of his projects, he was also responsible for customer or stakeholder relations (network events, webinars, newsletters, taskforces,...), administration tasks, etc.

Ben is mostly working on new music or riding his race bike in his free time. When traveling, he mostly enjoys nature, camping, and adventurous trips such as canyoning or hiking.
