Business Analytics

Since 2012, the leading analyst Gartner started to use "Business Analytics" to refer to the concept and the market of solutions for "Business Intelligence and Performance Management”. With this move, Gartner follows in the footsteps of other analysts like IDC and the leading solution-vendors in the space like IBM, Oracle, SAP and SAS. Whilst Business Intelligence is mainly referring to the software tools used to access data warehouses, Business Analytics is supposed to refer on the one hand to the broadening and convergence with other historically separate solutions like advanced analytics, data visualisation, GIS, data mining and Corporate Performance Management, on the other hand it is supposed to emphasize more the importance of processes and business driven use of data and information as an asset.

Business Intelligence then is more related to just the tools & technologies.
