Setting up a Case Management system for a Trusted Research Environment (‘TRE’)
This project was a partnership with UZ Brussel & 3 other affiliated hospitals to design and implement a secure, Azure-based Trusted Research Environment as part of the broader SPECTRE-HD program, enabling compliant secondary use of health data across a hospital consortium. Our scope included setting up the TRE architecture with role-based access control, secure networking, and an airlock mechanism for controlled data ingress/egress, as well as automating deployment via infrastructure-as-code. We delivered workspace templates, a case management system for research requests, and a dual data catalog (management and public) to enhance governance and transparency. Additionally, we provided workshops, Datahub integration guidance, and operational processes for monitoring, scaling, and compliance with GDPR and local regulations, ensuring a future-proof platform for research and innovation in healthcare
